3 Healthy Fast Food Options On Your Next Road Trip

When you take a road trip, unhealthy food options beckon for our attention at almost every mile of the journey. Billboards displaying juicy hamburgers frame the highway. And if the burgers don’t get your cravings going, watch out for the milkshake advertisement up ahead!

While you can sometimes feel stuck with unhealthy food options while traveling on a road trip, many fast food restaurants have expanded their healthier options over the last decade. In an article by Authority Nutrition, they identify a number of fast food restaurants that are worth the pit stop. But below we list three that are particularly worth pulling over for.

1. Chipotle

Chipotle Mexican Grill is located all over the US. They specialize in Tex-Mex items like tacos and burritos. They use only organic and local ingredients, and meats from naturally raised animals.

Healthy options: Burrito bowls with brown rice and salads, with a variety of meats, veggies, beans and guacamole.

2. Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A is a fast food favorite! Specializing in chicken sandwiches, they strive to offer the best chicken out there, and they were the first fast food restaurant in the US to offer a completely trans fat free menu.

They offer many healthy options on their menu- even kids can opt for fruit cup sides and milk to drink.

Healthy options: Grilled chicken nuggets, chicken salads, and multi-grain breakfast oatmeal. Check out their menu here.

NOTE: Chick-fil-A cooks its food in refined peanut oil. They offer information on their site explaining that because the peanut oil is refined, the proteins that cause allergic reactions are stripped from the oil before it’s used in cooking. HOWEVER, if you have any form of peanut allergy, please consult your allergist before consuming anything from Chick-fil-A.

3. Panera Bread

Panera Bread is a bakery that offers many tasty items beyond their pastries. They have recently achieved their goal of producing food that is 100% clean! That means that their entire menu consists of foods without artificial preservatives, sweeteners, flavors or colors from artificial sources.

Healthy options: They offer a variety of healthy soups, salads, and bowls.
