When it comes to traveling, especially by plane, there’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination feeling under the weather. Sometimes, in the life of a caregiver it is unavoidable. Whether you are taking your loved one for an appointment with their specialist across the country, or in the rare occasion you are taking the trip of a lifetime for the kids (or yourself) to Disney, it’s incredible how quickly your health gets zapped! Regardless of the reason, it’s important that you arrive refreshed. With this in mind, I share three travel essentials that are meant to help you and your loved one to stay fresh and feeling healthy while traveling. The last thing you want to do is to get sick from the journey.
1. Sanitize, and then… sanitize!
When you board a plane, do you ever imagine who might have been sitting in your seat for five hours before you? Maybe it was a germaphobe with a mask and gloves on who cleaned every crevice of the area before starting their journey. Wouldn’t that be nice?
That would be great, but reality lets us know that it was likely someone who coughed, sneezed, touched, and drooled their way through the flight. That’s why I always board a plane with my handy little spray bottle of Thieves Little but mighty, Thieves is a blend of essential oils that cleans and sanitizes any surface you spray it on. While antibacterial hand sanitizers can kill bad germs, they can also kill good germs. Thieves is a great alternative, and it’s a pro at warding off sickness while traveling.
TIP: I typically spray my neck, into my mouth, on my palms, and on surrounding surfaces of an airplane that I may touch.
2. Keep Everyone Full
Meals at airport terminals (and on the plane) are not always the healthiest options, and they are expensive. That’s if you can get the last box of hummus and pretzels before the flight attendant runs out. Hope you aren’t in Row 31!
While liquids are difficult to get through TSA, they do allow you to bring food on your journey. As much fun as it would be to pack a family picnic, it’s not going to be easy to dragging along the other five suitcases you have.
My solution: Two Mom’s In the Raw granola bars. I know there are countless granola and protein bars to choose from, and you could spend hours in the grocery store reading ingredients and debating which ones are most nutritious. But the unfortunate truth is, many “healthy” bars contain loads of sugar. I have weeded through every ingredient and found them to be the healthiest. They are gluten free, dairy free, raw and sprouted, organic, non GMO, no sugar added, 6 grams of protein- just filled with honest to goodness ingredients!

3. Stay Fresh
You rarely feel put together when you arrive after a flight (short or long). You’ve already freshened up your seating area by sanitizing with Thieves, but what about your skin? The air on planes can be destructive and take a toll on your skin, so I always opt out of wearing makeup, and instead I use skin moisturizer. While I run the risk of bumping into someone I know without a stitch of makeup on, my skin appreciates it.
